Welcome

The City of Paonta Sahib is nestled in the foothills of the Himalayan range, on the banks of River Yamuna in Himachal Pradesh adjoining the states of Uttaranchal & Haryana. It enshrines in itself the memory of many historical events of Sikh History. The Tenth Guru of Sikhs, Sri Guru Gobind Rai (Sri Guru Gobind Singh) stayed here for four and a half years. The Dasham Pitah Sri Guru Gobind Singh laid the foundation of this holy City with his sacred hands. The name of this holy city was given by this Guru.

On the request of the Raja of Nahan Medini Parkash, Guru Gobind Singh visited the Nahan Riyasat (State) and together they toured this area till they reached the present place of Paonta Sahib. When the Guru saw the beauty of this area, he decided to construct a camp to stay here. He laid the foundation of this holy city with his own scared hands and named it Poan-tikka, which is known as Paonta Sahib today. He fought and won his first battle against the hill kings (Biadhar Raja) here in Paonta Sahib.

The Gurudwara Shergah Sahib is situated in the North of Gurudwara Sri Paonta Sahib at a distance of four kilometers. Here Guru Sahib Killed a dangerous man-eater lion (Babar Sher).

Nowadays this Gurudwara Sahib is served by Baba Gurdyal Singh Ji along with the trustees of Baba Atmasingh Ji Trust.
